If you’re just about to embark on your IVF journey and have your “research hat” on, then you will no doubt be aware that the world of fertility is full of acronyms that you won’t be familiar with.
Here at Procreate, we have decided to help you out. Yesterday, we posted the first of your fertility acronyms, which are those that you may find in support groups and forums.
Today we have 10 more for you and these are all related to the wonderful world of fertility testing.

- AMH Anti Mullerian Hormone – a blood test which indicates your ovarian reserve.
- AFC Antral Follicle Count scan – this scan shows the number and size of follicles in your ovaries
- HSG Hysterosalpinogram – this x-ray shows if both fallopian tubes are open and if the shape of your uterine cavity is normal.
- ERA Endometrial Receptivity Array (indicates the best time for transfer)
- hCG Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (pregnancy blood test)
- FSH Follicle Stimulating Hormone – helps to understand how many egg containing follicles are remaining in your ovaries.
- TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone): this tests your thyroid levels, for IVF it should be at an optimum level.
- LAP Laparoscopy (checks for problems in the reproductive system/abdomen)
- EMMA Endometrial Microbiome Metagenomic Analysis (provides a profile of the bacteria in the womb lining)
- ALICE Analysis of Infectious Chronic Endometritis
