Choosing the Right IVF Clinic: Our 12-Point Checklist

In our previous blog post, we discussed how to find a clinic that can help you achieve your fertility goals. While the process of narrowing down clinics may seem daunting, Part 2 of the article offers a 12-point checklist that covers all the questions you should be asking.

  • Are your relationship status and age a match? Some IVF clinics are unable to treat single women or those over 45.
  • Waiting period: How soon can you start treatment? How long will it take to find a suitable donor(s)?
  • What are the credentials and backgrounds of the medical professionals and staff?
  • What are the clinic’s success rates? Ask for both a clinical pregnancy and a live birth.
  • What are the legislation and laws in place?
  • Does the clinic hold the appropriate licences and accreditations?
  • Ask about the regulations regarding donors and/or surrogacy.
  • Find out how many embryos can be transferred at any one time. How long can they be stored for? What happens to unused embryos if no further treatment takes place?
  • Are you going to have a coordinator assigned to you? Should you hire a translator?
  • Can the clinic assist with transport and accommodation?
  • Look into any financing alternatives, installment plans, or hidden expenses.
  • Ask about the refund policy.

These are just a handful of the basic questions that you should be asking each individual IVF clinic. We suggest that you write down any questions you have as soon as they come to mind. Eventually, you’ll have a lengthy list. At the consultation stage, it’s quite easy to forget, so be prepared.
